The Youth Enrichment Seminar (YES) Scholarship Program began in 1989 as a joint effort between the University of Kansas TRIO Talent Search Program and Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC). The program is designed for youth who demonstrate potential for academic success and who want to prepare for post secondary education.
Approximately thirty 8th grade students who attend Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools are selected each year as YES participants. After completion of their 8th grade year, students attend YES Week, a three-day summer program at KCKCC. During YES Week, students participate in various career- and college-related activities.
YES participants who attend monthly and yearly required activities, complete 100 hours of community service, and maintain a 2.50 cumulative grade point average are awarded a two-year, full-tuition scholarship to KCKCC upon their high school graduation.
